It wasn’t a one-time thing. The three carried on as if the hall was their secret spot, meeting up at random times a day and talking a bit before they got to business—and business meant pleasure with all their might if the way they went about it was any indication. They fucked each other with abandon and took positions that should have been awkward on the hard surface, but none of the parties seemed to care. Sometimes it was just the younger man and the woman, but frequently the other man joined them and experimented with whatever tricks they could come up with. On the ninth day, they were out of sight, but it didn’t matter as she could hear every rattle of the wall and slapping of skin against skin—and it was driving her crazy.

“He must be using magic. She’s louder than usual today.”

Billy said this matter-of-factly as if it was nothing new to him. A monstrous green streak pulsed inside her before she grumbled.

“All they ever do is have sex. It’s stupid.”

“It’s not. It’s fairly normal.”

“Who has that kind of stamina?” When he didn’t respond, she spun towards him and wasn’t surprised to find him so smug as he tried not to laugh. “Never mind. Still, I can’t believe you are not bothered by this.”

He shrugged and didn’t tease, looking away. Billy had long ago removed himself from the couch since the sexual escapades had started, choosing to cozy up on the bed with a blanket over him…

It sank in, then blew her mind. Her gaze landed on the cloth over his lower half with his shirt carefully folded on the side, just as it had been the past few days—as if he couldn’t bear the extra layer on his skin. There were other telltale signs, from the sweat on his belly to the restlessness of his fingers, and the only reason she hadn’t noticed was that she had been too busy trying not to look. But now…

“Do you need help with anything?”

His darting eyes snapped to hers, the denial automatic. “No.”

“Are you—”

“Nope. I’m fine. It’s normal for all men.”

“I can help.”

She expected outright rejection and was stunned when she was hit with something else: a clenched jaw, hands fisting so tightly, and muscle tics everywhere. He inhaled roughly and exhaled it with restraint, careful in his actions—and a man who wasn’t affected by her presence wouldn’t be careful, right?

“No, Iz. It’s a bad idea.”

Uncertainty washed over her before curiosity egged its way to the front. She sauntered to the bed and noted him freezing, but ignored it as she went to the other side like she always did to sleep when they determined it was nighttime. Sleep was so far away this time, but she stretched, ensuring her breasts were outlined against her shirt. She delighted in his next gritted inhale as she waited for the pounce, the surrender…except it didn’t happen.

“Sleepy?” he asked. “Go to sleep. It kills time.”

The nonchalance stabbed her ego and deflated her hope.
